April 1st 2006 saw New Zealand's first fully novice corporate boxing challenge. Televised on TV2's 20/20 the night was a hit with the hundreds of spectators who enjoyed the night at the SkyCity convention centre. Officially, no winners or losers where decided by the judges with the crowd being asked to call the winners after each bout for themselves. With no rock stars or sporting celebrities allowed to enter, EventX's corporate boxing challenge gives a competitor who normally works in a corporate or office type environment the opportunity to see if they have what it takes. With the final line up being announced 14 days out from the big night the talking stopped and the action really started heating up with the contestants being matched based on a combination of age, weight & experience. With everyone needing to be back at work on Monday morning, safety is a prime consideration. Contestants have their fitness and technique training supervised during the build up to an event, and must undergo fitness and boxing technique training for 12-16 weeks to get them physically and mentally prepared. Aprils event had 9 hard fought bouts that had the crowd on their feet as much as the boxers. This was no board room meeting with plenty of hard hitting action underlining the hard work that had gone in to the training. We were pleased to be able to do our part for raising awareness for the Auckland Zoo save the tiger campaign with one of the contestants being a zoo employee who brought all the crew from the zoo along for the night. The location provided uninterrupted views, great food and beverage service backed up with great music so everyone got to experience what they paid for.
A huge night for competitors and spectators alike we ran several promotions in conjunction with some of our sponsors that all put together made it a night out at SkyCity like no other.
